Standing Stone State Park covers nearly 11,000 acres on the Cumberland Plateau
of north-central Tennessee. The quaint and rustic park is noted for its
outstanding scenery, spring wildflowers, fossils and other natural diversity.
The park takes its name from the Standing Stone, an eight-foot tall rock
standing upright on a sandstone ledge, which was supposedly used as a boundary
line between two separate Indian nations. When the rock fell, the Indians placed
a portion of it upon an improvised monument to preserve it. The stone is still
preserved in Monterey, Tennessee. Standing Stone
State Park has cabins, camping, group lodges, picnicking and fishing. Text

I Walk the Line Filming Location
Gainesboro, Tennessee
The 1970 movie I Walk the Line, starring Gregory Peck, Tuesday Weld,
Estelle Parsons, and Charles Durning was filmed in Overton and Jackson Counties.
Most of the scenes were filmed in rural areas that are not easy to find.
One major exception is the courthouse square in downtown Gainesboro. The
courthouse and the surrounding streets were prominently featured in the movie.
This is where Sheriff Henry Tawes (Gregory Peck) and Deputy Wylie Hunnicutt
(Charles Durning) had their office. Of course, the movie was also noted
for the original music by Johnny Cash. Read more about the movie on the
